This afternoon my super lovely New Zealand penpal, Leonie, along with her beautiful daughter, collected Bella and myself from our accommodation and took us on a mini adventure to the awe inspiring Hamilton Gardens. I could never have imagined something so beautiful sitting right in the middle of a city, plus the gardens are a free activity, which is also a nice little extra when you’re looking for touristy things to do and see.
The gardens are set out so well, which means that you can walk through and not miss a thing, weaving your way in and out like a maze, but without getting lost – which is something I do quite easily in a maze.
There were so many different garden sections to see and for me, it was a tough choice for settling on a favourite. I think the Indian and Italian gardens blew my mind a little bit though, so much wonderfulness in the one spot.
You know the very best bit of the day though? Catching up with Leonie and discovering that we got along so well, it was just like talking to an old friend. I just wished we lived closer, but it’s a good excuse to come back to New Zealand again, I guess.
We’re moving onto Rotorua tomorrow and I can’t wait. I’ve had a tricky internet connection at this stop over, so I have a little back log of emails to reply to. Hopefully I’ll catch up on that tomorrow evening though,
