I’m always a bit fascinated to see what other people pack in their suitcases for travel, so I thought you might like to have a peek at a few things that I’m taking to Dubai this week. Only 1 more sleep and I’m off!
Incase you’re wondering, the blog will continue to tick over while I’m away – Thursday morning will be the usual handmade Christmas post and then every day after that I’ll be blogging from Dubai, which is pretty exciting! There will be posts on what I’m up to and I can’t wait to share a few of my purchases with you too – day 1 involves a trip to the local souks (plus more!) which I’m really looking forward to. So, please pop in and say hello – I’ll be on facebook and instagram too!
Anyhow, back to what I’ve packed for this trip. For those of you that have been following for a while, you’ll know that earlier in the year I culled my clothes back to 33 items and they were all winter things too! This worked really well for me, but as soon as we had a slightly warm day in Tasmania, I knew that I’d need to add several pieces to my wardrobe to see me through summer. With the upcoming Dubai trip, I wanted to be clever and add some summer wardrobe items that could be worn in a very hot climate (Dubai) and also used during our not so hot summer in Tasmania. Maxi dresses seemed like the perfect option! I bought a couple of different styles in black, a couple in navy and then a few more in other colours or prints. I’m also packing two light weight cardigans (black and white) and a sheer black cardigan for night time.
Shoe wise, I’ve packed my navy Mox, a black pair of salt water sandals and some random pewter shoes – plus heels for evening wear. I’m just dressing up a few of my maxi dresses with bling and high heels to wear in the evening, as I really didn’t want to buy any evening wear that I probably would only wear once or twice.
I’ve also popped in some beaded necklaces, a bangle and a few pairs of ear rings, which I’ll just mix and match each day.
(Simple storage for my jewellery)
(Sorry guys for the dodgy photos – it was a miserable, dreary and rainy here yesterday)
When it came to packing something to store my wallet, camera and daily bits and pieces in, I ummed and ahhed about what would be best. I was originally thinking back pack, but to be honest I find it a pain to be putting my phone, camera and wallet in and out of a back pack, so I went with a large hand bag instead. I’ve also packed a plain black purse for night time and my fabric travel bag that I made for our Hong Kong trip, stores all of my important documents and passport.
Then there’s my Midori Traveler’s notebook to use as a travel journal, my back up tea bags (a must take!) and my mini pencil case with date stamp, ink, spare pen, double sided tape and washi tape. I’ll use these in my journal and am hoping to purchase a few more supplies at Kinokuniya, in the Dubai mall.
I’ve also popped a few stationery supplies in the back of my Midori notebook.
We have a couple of spare slots of time during the trip and I hope to spend a bit of this in the pool at our hotel. I’ve packed bathers, a hat (that can be squished up nice and small), sunglasses, sunscreen and a wrap.
That’s pretty much everything, other than boring things like laptop, phone charger and a power plug socket for Dubai. I was going to share my cosmetic bag and contents with you, but I’m at the bottom of this post and forgot to take a photo! A very big thank you again to Samsonite for the fabulous luggage for this trip – it feels so great to be packed and all ready to go.
Roll on Wednesday!
